The Microsoft Windows cumulative and security updates from or after March 12, 2019, prevent the Dell Encryption Local Management Console UI from properly launching or displaying information about the encryption status of the device. Due to these UI issues, Opt-In (Deferred Activation) and Server Encryption do not prompt for activation data.

Devices that have this issue show an Encryption Client ID (formerly Shield ID) of "_UNMNGD_" and/or a Machine ID of "_UNINITIALIZED_" in the About menu of the Dell Encryption Local Management Console.

Resolution

Update Dell Encryption Enterprise or Dell Encryption Personal to 10.2.1 or later, to resolve these UI issues, which can be found at https://www.dell.com/support/home/product-support/product/dell-data-protection-encryption/drivers

Note: This issue does not affect the product functionality and it continues to protect data, except for devices that are leveraging Opt-in (Deferred) Activation or Server Encryption.

A work-around on versions before Dell Encryption v10.2.1 is to remove any Microsoft Windows cumulative and security updates from or after March 12, 2019. Dell does not recommend removing patches as it may leave computers in a vulnerable state.
