Remembering the serial number of a disk in VxRAIL Manager.

Could you please tell me about how many generation it is remembered in VxRAIL Manager?

My customer and I have been aware of VxRAIL Manager, which remembers the serial number of each disk. We are in a POC, actually. So we have realized we couldn't try to fail and replace with only one disk. I believe that It will be lost in VxRAIL Manager after being replaced to another disk with a different serial number. Am I in correct?

VxRail Manager could not proceed drive replacement procedure because the drive has VSAN partition on it, VxRail manager drive replacement only accept empty drive.

Thanks your kind attention and answer. Please let me confirm one more thing about it.

Though It couldn't be done through our VxRAIL Manager, could we try to manually replace the drive in vCenter as a workaround?

Thanks!

What are you trying to do?  Are you trying to show how a drive replacement works?

ColinGallagher, thanks for your kind attention always. I go it through the 3.5 Release Notes. You have already provide it.

Disk replacement might be blocked because VxRail Manager can't get disk information after a

disk is unplugged/plugged-in accidentally (1660639)

Workaround: The cluster is in an unhealthy state. Wait until it returns to a healthy state. Refer to KB 484181.

Thanks again and have a good day.

Hi,

Does this mean that the situation is not from what VxRAIL Manager remembers the old disk serial number? So VxRAIL manager doesn't remember the old disk information. Am I in correct understanding? I am wondering about whether VxRAIL Manager really remembers the old disk serial number or not, actually.

Thanks.

My understanding is that the serial number is not remembered, it is that the disk is examined and if there is a VSAN partition already on the disk, it cannot be used. giadarola Can you confirm?
