U2913WM, Windows 11, DDM, please connect a supported Dell monitor

I have installed DDM 2.3.1 on my XPS 15 9560 laptop but it asks me to connect a supported Dell monitor.

My laptop is connected to a single U2913WM monitor via:

  • USB-C to DP cable
  • USB-A to USB-B upstream cable

OSD shows DDC/CI is enabled.

Even if I disconnect the monitor, the same message pops up when I try to open DDM on my laptop's display.

SupportAssist 4.3.1.11711 says my system is up to date on drivers and downloads, and the scan hardware test does not show any issues.

Windows Update says my system is up to date.

Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, Version 23H2, OS build 22631.3958, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1026.0

I would appreciate your help.

This Dell article, "Dell Display (Monitor) Models supported by Dell Display Manager" states that the 11 year old U2913WM is only supported with the older DDM 1.x version.

That is why the online U2913WM Drivers & Downloads page only shows DDM version 1.56.2110.

@DELL-Chris M

Thank you, Chris, for your prompt reply and solution. DDM 1.56.2110 seems to work well with my monitor so I can ditch the stupid Windows Snap, which does not support the upper/lower half screen layout.

I now see my mistake: I just Ctrl+F’ed “U2913WM” and found it on the rightmost column of the table of compatible monitors without realising that the column header was “DDM 1.x Only”. The header is several scrolls up and I just assumed that all monitors on the table were compatible with the latest version of DDM. I should have read the details more carefully—my bad.

On the bright side, my 11-year-old U2913WM is still working flawlessly and I have been using it 11 hours a day on average for the last 11 years, non-stop!

I can understand that Dell would not update/test DDM software on older monitors like mine but I would suggest reconsidering. Being Dell’s monitors life cycle so long as my monitor demonstrates, loyal customers like me would like to see our older and cherished pieces of hardware taken into account in future software upgrades where possible.
