SD Card Slot Inoperative

I have an XPS M140 with the multimedia card slot (SD cards, flash media, etc.). Lately, it seems I can't get the pc to write to an SD card that I have inserted in the slot. I even bought a new card, and I have the same problem. When I try to copy an mp3 to the card, I get an error message like it can't create the file on the card. Is it possible that this card reader slot or drive is malfunctioning or defective?

Hello,
Are you running Windows Vista ? If yes, it could be a driver issue. My desktop, which I built myself, uses a Antec case which came with a 7-in-1 card reader, which hooks up to the internal USB header pics on the motherboard. Using Windows XP, this used to work perfect. However, in Windows Vista, i cannot write to any SD/MMC cards at all. Reading works fine, but on attempting to write a file, i get a access denied message. I have tried various different steps to solve this issue, but in vain.
