Bought Laptop from Pawn Shop......

I just recently bought an inspiron 6000 from a pawn shop.... I was a little sceptical about it at first but it was a really good price... is there anyway to change who the computer is registered to?

Only the registered owner can do that.

actually ejn63 is incorrect with his answer. the registered name can be changed. i have done it quite a few times with my friend's units and when i first learned how, i did it on my work computer. you can change it in the Registry Editor by running the regedit command and navigating to the correct area. i am not even going to give instructions on completing this transaction. it is NOT! i mean NOT! recommended that an inexperienced person adjust their Registry. doing so could damage their system.

That's not what the original post was asking. They're asking about how to change the owner registration with Dell. That can be done only by the currently registered owner - something that buyers of second-hand systems should bear in mind.

it does not differentiate one or the other. there are people who want to do the 1 you were talking about and there are some that want to do what I was talking about. also, there are some that do both.

If you intend on buying a desktop pc or laptop from a pawn shop, you need  to be extra careful. You should examine all the parts and working of a laptop carefully before buying it from a pawn shop.
