BIOS 1.2.18 causing laptop to turn off instead of sleep in Win 10

I've set Win 10 Power Options so that when I close my laptop lid or press Power button slightly, it would put the laptop to sleep rather than turn off. Last Friday I ran the update software because multiple reminders, part of that updated the BIOS, it took a while that's why I remembered. Now it seems no matter whether I close my laptop lid or press the Power Button slightly it would power off the laptop.

I searched this forum, just last month BIOS 1.2.16 corrected the power button/lid closing issue causing laptop to turn off instead of sleeping despite what those settings were set to do in Win 10 Power Options. Now it seems 1.2.18 cause this issue to come back again.

Any solution? Thanks

Your Dell model is XPS 9550 ? If yes, there's a new BIOS update - version 1.2.19 ), posted on Jan 23, 2017.

I've got a similar or the same issue, on 1.2.18.

I'm not sure if it actually powers off at the moment when it is supposed to go to sleep. It might as well restart instead of waking, or shut down at one point during sleep. There is no sleep indicator LED to tell. In Event log / System there is a note that the previous shutdown was unexpected, but the reported shutdown times are sometimes inconsistent.

(Once previously, the 9550 would be waking from sleep instantly or after a while in my backpack, and I've managed to find out that the initial wake was caused by failure to hibernate after a pre-set time with the "hibernate after" option in Advanced power options, and then the instant-wake issue would persist until a hard restart 5s holding down the power button).

I'm also not sure if this is caused by the 1.2.18 BIOS. I think my 9550 has been sleeping and waking fine initially with 1.2.18 (hibernate after set to never). I think the appearance of the issue roughly coincided with the installation of an audio driver and wired dock updates suggested by Dell update, which I've confirmed about a week ago (first event with level Critical of this series 18/01/2017), but rolling back didn't help.

I didn't try the 1.2.19 yet. I don't expect much because nothing related is mentioned (Fixes & Enhancements: 1.Fixed Pre-OS has no display on external monitor with Lid Close issue). And I'm reluctant to be a beta tester of firmware and drivers, I've had to much hassle caused by so-called fixes and enhancements so far, so I'd prefer to wait at least until a few others say it is okay ;(

Try disabling Fast boot in Power options if it is turned on.

The above BIOS update suggested by LSUFAN51 resolved the issue. Thanks very much.

Tnx for feedback. It woke up okay a few times after turning off Fast boot (though I'm not sure when I turned it on, I thought I've had it off for a long while). But today another reboot.

So, I've applied the 1.2.19... It contain several flashes so it can't be just for the one issue listed. There was an annoying finding in another thread though that sleep issues tend to go away after a BIOS update but reappear after a while.

No reboots after sleep so far, after 1.2.19 BIOS update.

Reflashed with the same BIOS 1.2.19 and my 9550 just managed to wake from one night's sleep.
