X51-R3, BIOS 1.2.11, slow start and shutdown

Greetings,

Last night I updated my Bios to 1.2.11 and it is the worst update ever! It usually it takes my PC to start from 10 - 15 seconds. Now it takes more than 10 minutes. I don't know why. By the way, it was running perfectly before the update. But after it takes a really very very long time to shutdown and to start up as i said over 10 minutes instead of 15 seconds. Please Dell fix this issue. Otherwise why did I buy Alienware PC? Isn't it for better Performance? By the way, I tried everything, optimizing, power drain, nothings works!

Regards

* Turn the X51-R3 off
* Disconnect the External HD Buffalo 2 TB USB 3.0 from the X51-R3
* Turn the X51-R3 on

Did it boot faster?

Hi @DiabloQ8@django83,

We are sorry for the problems you are experiencing with the system. Engineering is aware and they are working to release a new BIOS update to solve this.

Although I would wait for the new BIOS as Alienware-Eimy mentioned,
* For the older BIOS files, go here

I just updated the BIOS to 1.2.11 version as RECOMMENDED here (Alienware X51 R3):

http://www.dell.com/support/article/it/it/itbsdt1/sln308587/vulnerabilit%C3%A0-di-canale-laterale-del-microprocessore-cve-2017-5715-cve-2017-5753-cve-2017-5754-impatto-sui-prodotti-dell?lang=it#patch_guidance

This make my boot problem even WORST!! Did you even tried the BIOS that you ship to customers?? You've just lost a customer... Worst support experience ever, shame on you

I think your hard-drive is going bad. If so, it's just a coincidence (spinners can fail at any time).

It's SMART should say. What does ePSA or CrystalDiskInfo say about it?

After downloading it says its not allowed to downgrade and closes. Is there a way to over ride? Hopefully your guys fix quick, it's been over a month. I can't believe they didn't test it better before rolling it out.

It's becoming common in the industry now-days. My Lenovo-X1 Carbon is like that. If you read it's BIOS release notes, it says "No back-flashes". I think it might because some of the embedded controllers get flashed as well.

However, in its BIOS, there is a switch to allow a back-flash. But with the warnings, can't say I've ever tried it.

If two of you are having the same problem with this new BIOS, it does seem to be a problem with it. Are you sure it didn't just change a few BIOS options to be sub-optimal (I've seen that before). Now-days, I usually take phone pics of BIOS option screens first.
