XPS 16 9640 External Mic Volume

Just purchased a Dell XPS 16 to replace my XPS 15. When using an external mic in the mic jack I get no volume when I set the pop up that asks what you plugged in to mic.
Now when I set it to headset the volume is much higher. I have used this same mic and cable with my XPS 15 without issues in the past. I also use it on my iPad Pro without issues so I know the mic and cable work just fine.
It seems to be a driver issue based on the setting given to the pop up dialog.

Have you chose the external mic in the in the sound options? Click here for troubleshooting external mic options. Please update the Windows and all the drivers including cirrus-Logic-High-Definition-Audio-Driver. It can be done with the link here. If none of the issues above resolve the issue please share the external mic model and a short video if possible.
