XPS 15 9560, battery not recognized

Why am I getting this error and how do I fix it? Warranty expired March 2019.

You're going to have to be MUCH clearer.  Your title says "battery not recognized".

Is it the battery that's not recognized?

Or is it the AC adapter that's not recognized?

If the battery isn't recognized, proceed as above - remove the base cover, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Reconnect and check again. If the battery is then still not recognized, replace it.

If it's the AC adapter that's not recognized, try another Dell OEM adapter.

Still not much to go on.  Remove the base cover and disconnect the battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec and reconnect it.

Then restart - if the battery is still absent, it's dead - you'll need to replace it with a new one.

What model computer and OS? Instead of posting a picture that we can't see until it's approved by mods, explain it in your post.

The battery isn’t dead because it say it is connected. Just not charging. It also charged somehow last night.

It says “alert! The ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.”

I do not understand what it wrong and what has caused this. No one has recommended buying a new battery. Is this a troll

The problem was your initial post, which is that the battery isn't recognized.

This is a different issue.  If the AC adapter is not recognized, the battery will not charge, but the system should recognize it.  If the battery IS recognized, but the adapter isn't:

1. Try a new (or another) Dell OEM AC adapter.  If it works, the problem is a faulty adapter.  If another adapter doesn't solve the problem,

2.  Change the DC power jack in the system.  If you need a part reference, post the model number - not just XPS 15, but XPS 9550, 9650, 9750, etc.

3.  If the adapter and jack change don't get the adapter recognized, it's the charge circuit that's bad and the system board will need to be replaced.

This solution did not work for me.  I bought a new battery.  The battery charges completely. But, the battery does not get recognized - as I disconnect the power cable from the computer with the fully charged new battery in there, the computer behaves as if there is no power and shuts off.

I bought a new battery off amazon since Dell no longer sells the 9560 batteries to replace. Now my bios says the battery isn't identifiable and will not charge.

Same for me here. Bought a new battery elsewhere for my Dell XPS 15 9560, since they don't sell that part, and my computer will not recognize it and won't charge it. An error message *kindly* suggests that I buy one from Dell.ca. Called technical support for absolutely nothing since they couldn't do anything for a laptop that is not under warranty anymore.

Its just incredible everything else about the machine is good, i bought a brand new custom 3000 GBP XPS 15, arrives out of the box with blinking light and no battery. I am just disgusted with dell

This is incredibly frustrating.  I will think twice about buying Dell or it's other brands after my experience trying to replace the batteries after the warranty expired.  They have doomed my 3-year old XPS 15 by refusing to accept new batteries.

I bought a new battery, installed it, and it said the battery was not installed. I finally found my problem to be that the connector on the battery was not pushed down quite all the way. It takes a little bit of force to push it all the way in and will give a little click.

Hey I just got a replacement for an old XPS 15 from 2014 as the battery has been inflated for acouple years making the touch pad unusable as it had pushed it through from under neath (bad design?) I've never had this with other laptops but I digress.

Thankfully in Australia Dicksmith still stock the 61Wh 9530 T0TRM Battery. I had the same issue with the laptop complaining about the battery not being dell certified straight away once the new battery was installed & I started the computer back up.

My Solve

I went into the BIOS (once power button is hit smash the F2 key until Dell logo appears) swing across to Advance tab (use UDLR arrows to navigate) then head on down to the Battery options leave it all the same apart from Battery Charge Configuration change that to AC power only. It has seemed to fix all the error messages dell has put in place & even started charging the battery. I only recently have done this & as it hasn't been tested over time, it could be an intermittent fix but seems to solve my issue for now.

Thanks for the initial post & all the responses before me so I feel that I'm not alone with this issue.
