Re-use ESRS deployed in another VxRail Cluster for a new cluster

Hi,

I have a customer with two separate VxRail Clusters (not stretched) where one is about a year old and had ESRS/Ve deployed from inside VxRail Manager during the cluster installation. I am wondering if it is possible to re-use this ESRS for the new cluster we have setup or i fI need to deploy a separate ESRS for the new cluster?

The reason I asking is  beacuse I asked a support representative the same question and he recommended to deploy an external ESRS and then add both clusters to this ESRS instead but I can't get my head around how this would differ and if it is really necessary to scrap the existing one and deploy an "external" ESRS in order to get away with having one ESRS machine for both clusters.

We are running VxRail 4.5.152 on both clusters

Thanks for any input

The way it is designed, there is a one-to-one relationship between a VxRail cluster and the embedded ESRS-VE on it. It cannot be used for another cluster.

You have two choices as you also alluded to in your question.

1) using an external ESRS gateway for more than one cluster (and potentially for other systems)

2) for each VxRail cluster, use their own embedded ESRS-VE.

And, I have a couple of followup questions...

Can I add other devices onto the ESRS that VxRail is using (i.e. VNX, Avamar, etc.)

I have 2 VxRail deployments, each has it's own ESRS, can I setup those 2 ESRS to function as a back-end cluster for EMC ESRS?

Thanks.

Simply speaking, you can not add other devices to ESRS for Vxrail, because it's internal(embedded) ESRSVE for VxRail.

If you set up External ESRSVE, you could do it.

Internal ( Embedded ) ESRSVE is much similar to ESRS Device Client in terms of restriction.

It can only manage device that it resides.

So you need to build new ESRSVE to manage other EMC devices
