U2715H, XPS 8910, GTX 1070, connections

Just purchased these two separately and the screen lead supplied was a what I think is a mini DP to DP? The only connections on the screen are either DP or Mini DP as far as I can see for connecting the two? The XPS 8910 desktop has what I think is a DP socket on the mother board but obviously as an XPS it has a fairly good installed NVidia graphics card which the output is via a DVI socket. I cannot get the screen to switch on at all and have had to connect up an older dell screen with DVI to DVI instead for now. I just get the notice on the screen that there is no DP cable connected even when plugging into the DP socket on the rear of the desktop. Which is the best way to connect this? can I use a DVI to HDMI or DVI to mini DP as I will need to order the required lead / adapter. Obviously I do not want to lose any quality if poss. Hope someone can help?

Many thanks, Ceekay

DP = DisplayPort
mDP = Mini-DisplayPort

You should be connecting the U2715H to the bottom #6 GTX 1070 video card. Not to the middle #12 onboard DP out port.

* Turn the XPS 8910 and the U2715H off
* Disconnect all video cables currently plugged into the rear of the XPS 8910
* Connect in this way =
XPS 8910 GTX 1070 DP out port --> U2715H DP to mDP cable --> U2715H mDP in port
-or-
XPS 8910 GTX 1070 DP out port --> U2715H DP to DP cable --> U2715H DP in port
* Turn the U2715H on, then the XPS 8910
* Press the U2715H Menu button
* Go to Input Source
* Check mDP or DP. Whatever one you used on the U2715H
* Exit the Menu

We need to know the specific added video card in the XPS 8910. Check your invoice. Or enter the XPS 8910 service tag number here, then click submit. Then click System configuration- Current configuration.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for that it has all booted up now and yes the screen was not set to mini dp. The slight query I have is that it would seem that in position 6 on your picture theire is a graphics card (i think) that has 4 slots of which i think 2 are full size DP ports and I am using one of them now. But below this card is another grahics card with just a DVI socket so not sure if i should be using DVI to mini DP?

Also I will want to connect at least 1 more screen so if you have a mo please can you advise the best way to add this on as well.

Many Thanks, and much appreciated, Keith

No. I would use the full size DP as you are now. All those ports are on ONE video card that takes up two slots.

Is there anything I should know before I connect my dell 2410 to my Dell xps 8910?  I've been using the monitor for years with a dell xps 8300.
