The monitor would work fine for about a min or two then it would start to make a buzzing sound. after about another 1-2mins the screen would brighten up and then it goes black. has anyone had this problem? i'm hoping its not a sign that the monitor is dieing cause my warranty is probably expired and really dont want to go buy another 1 :emotion-6:

So once it goes black, you do not have any picture? You then power it off and on and the same thing occurs? If so, then the monitor is defective.

My 2309W just started doing this today...

Buzz for a couple of minutes, then Max Contrast/Brightness for about 1 second, then black screen with all the LED's fixed on. Switch off then switch on and the same thing happens.

Seems like these monitors might have an exact expiry of November 2011... I'm pretty annoyed to be replacing it.

That is so weird. I've had my SP2309W for about 1 year, and today Dec 17, 2011, , poof! I am getting the exact same symptoms.  Everything would be fine, After a minute or two, the monitor slowly starts to buzz (real quiet at first). After a few seconds of buzzing, the screen will get brighter for about 3 seconds, then go black.  It can be fixed by doing a monitor power off/on. Also, trigerring my screen saver seems to bring it on also. For example, I can have the pc idle for 30 minutes with a working display, and then if I become active again, the same problem then happens again.  This was a great monitor, I hope it can be fixed.

This seems to be something a lot of people are going to see. I have had my monitor for about 3 years now. This morning I started having the same symptoms described above. I have adjusted the brightness down to 30 and the monitor will work for a bit longer between failure. Dell are you monitoring this thread and if so is there a solution?

Exact same problem here. The buzzing started about 2 weeks ago. This morning I walked into my office, wiggled the mouse to wake up the monitor... nothing. I noticed the power LED was white, not amber. I turned the power off and back on, picture came back. For a few seconds, then as others have said, it went full brightness then went blank. The buzzing sound changes with the brightness setting and will go away at 100%. But that makes it die faster. The buzzing seems to be associated with using HDMI. I switched to DVI and although there was no buzzing, it still went blank after a few seconds. Now it's at the point that I can't get any display, just blank. And yes, I tried leaving the power off for awhile.

SP2309W purchased 1/7/09, died 2/16/12.

I actually ordered the SP2208WFP but they shipped the 2309.

Bought mine 3-3-09 an two days ago it started buzzing, and as of this morning it buzzes for about 60 seconds then shuts off the screen. It happens over and over. I found a tip somewhere that if you turn the brightness way down it helps. It lasted 37 months and had a 36 month warranty. Surprise surprise. Come on Dell, this is should be covered. I'd send it in for you to repair or i'd settle for a refurb.

I'm having this exact same problem now.  I bought a 20" Dell widescreen November of 2004 that still works beautifully.  My SP2309W has out after just a few years. Has anyone found a resolution for this?

All,

We are not seeing this issue when we read the logs on replaced SP2309W monitors. If under warranty, use the Dell order number found on the original Dell invoice and contact Order Support for your country. If you purchased the monitor bundled with a Dell PC, contact Technical Support for your country and use the Service Tag number from the bundled Dell PC. They will need the following data -
Email Address:
Name:
Shipping Address:
Phone Number:
Monitor Order number or if bundled, system service tag number:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number:
Reason:

NOTE - If you are in the USA, once you get the monitor exchange dispatch number, send it to me via private message so we can capture the returned monitor.

Hi Chris, mine is still doing the same thing but less infrequent since turning the brightness way down. I bought mine brand new through OWC in March of '09 and the 36 month warranty is already expired. Will Dell still cover this?

Thanks

Bill

Same here, mine went out shortly after the 36 month expiration date.  This will probably be my last Dell monitor.

Chris,

Mine is well past the warranty period but if you would like to ship me a replacement I would be happy to send you this one so that you can see it happen all you would like. I run it at 30% brightness just to keep it going but all I have to do to get it to fail is turn it up to 90% or higher and it fails in within seconds.

Thanks,

Randy

How were you able to get the brightness down?  Mine is not on long enough to be able to see the menu to turn it down.

Turn it off for a few minutes and let the monitor cool down, then try it

Doesn't help.  I have had it off for days (since it's not usable).  It will turn on for literally 1 second.  Not even enough time to popup the brightness menu.  Then goes black, then flickers back on, then goes black permanently.
