Memory for latitude e6410 Question

Does the DDR3 memory have to be specific for the Latitude E6410?   I have tried upgrading the memory from 2 gigs to 8 gigs.   I have tried;

2 x Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3L 1600MHz Non-ECC 204-pin Unbuffered SODIMM Memory Module

Corsair Memory 8GB Vengeance Performance DDR3 SO-DIMM 1866 MHz 10 Dual Channel Laptop

Both of which Windows 64 bit and Manjaro 64 bit linux failed to boot on.  I ran the inbuilt Dell diagnostics - all passed.

I "borrowed" a Hynix 4 gig stick from another different model Dell which works fine.  The Corsair memory is working fine in the Dell I borrowed the memory from.  but so far short of 4 Gig.

From what I understand the memory I bought to upgrade should have worked fine.

Confused.

Hi amtrakuk,

Dell Latitude E6410 has 2 DIMM slots. The system accepts a memory capacity ranging from 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB. The memory type accepted is DDR3 1066 MHz only. The computer supports a maximum of 8GB* of memory when installed with two 4GB DIMMs.

Thanks, managed to resolve the issue.  The memory was too fast, contrary to experience, the laptop only supports 1333mhz memory.  I always thought faster memory would be slowed down to match the speed of the bus controller but it doesn't seem so.  Managed to get 2 x 4GB of 1333MHz memory works a treat.

1333mhz  ddr3 8gb works fine with 32bit win 7 OS on e6410, but when you try to upgrade to 64 bit win 7 pro, it fails at booting with a white screen, someone else posted that e6410 cant handle more than 4 gb during installation and there was a bios update A09 released for that, whereas the actual issue is during 64bit os install, it cannot handle ram anything more than 1066mhz (1333 MHz and above rams fail though they get scaled down to 1066mhz), after replacing with 1066mhz 4 gb the 64 bit setup runs fine. I believe this is due to the processor limitation, in my la[ptop I have I3 first gen which can support a max of 8 gb provided the frequency is between 800 and 1066, anything above this does work properly. Bottom line is 1066mhz is the best DDR3 for e6410, I guess it applies to i5 and i7 released during that time.
