HDMI not an option in SOUNDS

HDMI is not an option in the Playback section of Sounds on my Inspiron 15-7568.  I was able to hook this to my TV via HDMI and it played through the TV's speakers until recently. I've checked and HDMI is not an option in my playback section and nothing is disabled -- can't figure out how to add the HDMI back.  I'm not real techno-savvy so any help is appreciated.

HDMI is not an option in the Playback section of Sounds

Hello. Open the Windows Sound dialog.

Move the cursor to anyplace in the blank white area, and right click. You will see a context menu that will include the options to "show" disabled and disconnected devices.  Check those option boxes.

Now check the list of playback devices again. If HDMI is now in the list, right click on it and use the options to enable it and to make it the default playback device.

If you still don't have HDMI in the list, then the best bet is to re-install the graphics (video) driver for your model, as suggested by jphughan.

Here is a link to the forum's HDMI Audio FAQ.

If you see it there but audio isn't playing out of the TV, select the HDMI option and click "Set as default", then you might need to close and relaunch whatever application you're playing audio with.  If you don't see it listed at all even when everything is connected and powered on, install the latest graphics drivers since the HDMI audio "device" is technically part of the graphics adapter.  If you STILL don't see it, check Device Manager and see if any devices are called out with a yellow exclamation point or red X.  Otherwise, if you expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" category, you should see a device called "Intel Display Audio".

On some systems, it only appears when you actually have the system connected to an HDMI target that supports audio and is powered on, just in case you're looking at it while that's not the case.

Thanks for the help, guys.  I didn't have it selected as my default and didn't realize that Intel was what I should have been looking for.  It wasn't obvious because it didn't say HDMI literally on the label  - so...  once I check it I found that was what I needed  Thanks for the quick responses!
