Problem with ESXi installation on VEP4600 due UEFI Secure boot

Hello,

I'm having a problem installing ESXI 7 update 02 (downloaded from the Dell website)

The installation process successfully starts and, after a moment, stops with the error shown below:

================================
<6>UEFI Secure Boot is not enabled
<6>Located crypto module: VMware's ESXboot Cryptographic Module, v1.0
<6>Shutting down firmware services...
================================

I tried to enable Secure Boot in the BIOS and followed Dell's guide:

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/virtual-edge-platform-4600-4c/vep4600_os_install_pub/configure-bios-to-enable-secure-boot?guid=guid-832d20d9-8e21-4616-a7a1-5d92351eae44&lang=en-us

However, BIOS on my server doesn't have a "Secure Boot" option under the Security Tab in BIOS. See the screenshot below:

I tried to disable the CSM configuration and disable/enable the TPM module in the BIOS, but it didn't resolve the problem. Is there any way to bring the "Secure Boot" configuration to the BIOS, as shown in the configuration guide?

Thank you in advance

Eventually, I decided to start "from scratch" and first rolled ufw package, where Secure Boot was introduced for the first time:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-my/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=7rfvc&oscode=naa&productcode=virtual-edge-platform-4600-8c

After this version of BIOS was applied, I saw a "Secure Boot" feature in the BIOS Security menu.

At this moment, I was able to load the ESXI installer.

Then I rolled the latest version of ufw updater, and successfully applied all required updates and installed ESXi 7.0.3

Keep in mind that when Secure Boot is enabled, the UFW updater can't start the upgrade from the same host and complains about the ipmi_si module.

Hi,

What firmware version are you on? Also, have you change BIOS to UEFI?

Firmware download: https://dell.to/3WBLLUr

Install firmware ref: https://dell.to/4dwZ3Ze

Hello Joey,

Thank you for your answer.

Yeah, I did run the Firmware updater, and it was completed, but BIOS didn't change.

I re-run the updater, and it shows the following information, saying that all my firmware is up to date.

Package version: 4.3
    Packaged images:
        BMC image:  2.30
        BIOS image: 3.41.0.9-25
        CPLD image: 0x12
        Wifi CPLD image: 0x1
        X722 image: 6.20
Note:If BMC version is less than 1.23 CPLD versions will not be shown correctly

I also tried different versions of ESXi starting from 6.0 to 7.0u3 but it didn't work either.

In terms of changing BIOS to UEFI, it is not obvious here. I did turn off CSM, but it didn't help, I tried to set all devices within the CSM to UEFI only, but that also didn't help.

I'm more curious about two questions:

- the screenshot from Dell documentation has a "secure boot" feature; should this be related to a particular version?

- can I somehow check if my hardware supports ESXi?

Thank you for your help
