Aurora R4 Wifi Inclusion

Hi,

I was browsing through the specs for Alienware Aurora R4, but can't seems to find any information on the Wifi connection.

So does the Aurora R4 include the Wifi Adaptor for wireless internet connection? I also went through the customizing part, but can't seems to find the Wifi section. I'm asking because my internet is wireless.

Thanks in advance.

(Note: I accessed Singapore store)

Thanks for replying.

Ah, I'm not having any problem at all.

I'm just asking if the Alienware Aurora R4 have any Wi-fi adaptor included in it, because I'm planning to get one.

I went through the purchasing section and tech specs, but can't find anything or any info on the wifi adaptor. I just want to make sure that the R4 have a wifi adaptor before I decided to buy one because my internet is wireless.

Thanks

wcloudx,

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system?

Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here?

wcloudx,

Let me move you thread to the Alienware forum and maybe someone can help you. If there is no reply within a few days, reply to the thread and I'll see what IO can find.

No probem, thanks for the heads up.

Just for additional information:

I also checked the Aurora R4 product reviews over at Dell, and a few did mentioned that the Wifi is an optional part and you need to include the adaptor when purchasing one.

The problem is that there's no indication or options to include the wifi or whatsoever in the customization. So basically, I don't know whether the wifi adaptor is included or not since there's no information on it. The only thing I see is that it has an Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN.

wcloudx,

If you go to Drivers & Downloads click your way through the system, once to get the correct system and operating system, under network you can see a list oif the adapters available on the system.

You could also click on live chat, when you're on the configuration page.

I was hoping that a member would be able to supply the information you're looking for.

Thanks for the info. Will check this out.

@DELL-Chris M

Yeah, apparently not every region used the same combo card. Thanks for replying.

So I went and check out under "Drivers & Download" and they did listed out the wifi/bluetooth adapter list, which means that we do get the options.

The funny thing is that, still, it's not listed when I go to the customization part. (Just for the info, my region is "Singapore" since I currently lived there)

So just to double check, I went and change the region to US and check out the US store...and boom it's there. In the customization part they actually have the option "Wireless & Bluetooth" where you can choose and add the optional adapter, which the Singapore store doesn't have.

Does that mean that (at least for Singapore), the R4 doesn't include the wi-fi/bluetooth option? or even have one? I mean it's not even listed in the product tech specs.

(Note: I did further check up and they have the wireless add-on, but it's under "Accessories" and it's a D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter, which I heard is not a good one. I would prefer an internal adapter)

Where exactly is the wifi/bt card in the R4? It is not on the front of the drive case or the top of the case as the service manual indicates. Is there a service manual for the R4?

Hi,

The wifi card is next to the ODD, here's a picture:

And you can find the service manual here:

In previous models, the WiFi option is just a proprietary module that taps into the USB channels at the MIO-Board. Looks like it mounts in top of machine. Hopefully, there is no metal between it and the outside (due to antenna). A real antenna might not look as pretty, but they obviously work better (especially if also outside machine).

You will be better off getting a USB dongle or PCIe card (with more current radio abilities) and use that card's real drivers.

PDF Owners and Service manuals are suppose to be available. If one is missing, use R1, R2 or R3.

On mine, I got the BlueTooth 2.x module. It's similar to that pic (and connects to USB channels at MIO) but mounts in the front in small opening in metal frame.
