How do I run a ScanDisk?

I've read to click on Start, Programs, Accessories, system tools and ScanDisk. I have 2 computers running on Windows XP home, and one on XP Professional. None of them have ScanDisk under System tools. I've done it before, but can not find it now.

Open the Windows Explorer, Right Click on the hard drive (usually C) then Left click on "Properties".  Click the "Tools" tab and you can then run "Error Checking" (scan disk) or defrag.

DAE06,

Windows XP does not have scandisk, it has chkdsk. You can run it as detailed above or from the command line by going to Start|Run, entering chkdsk /f and clicking OK. You will have to restart the computer before it will run with the /f switch. Enter chkdsk as a search term in Help and Support and it will display the other available switches.
