What comes in the Portable Computer Mail In Service box?

The following items are in the mail in service box:

1. Repair Form

If your computer is being sent to Dell for any kind of a POWER ISSUE, we recommended that both the battery and AC power adapter be included. Both are important for power issue troubleshooting. Be certain to keep track of the serial numbers of both the battery and the AC Adapter. Note the numbers on the information sheet if they are included when the computer is sent to us.

If your computer has a removable hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) and your computers issue has something to do with the drive's function or data access, and booting to Windows is required to troubleshoot the issue, then the removable drive should be included or else the repair depot may be unable to complete the necessary repairs.

Note: It is recommended that you backup your data on the drive before sending it to Dell. All data on the drive may be lost if Windows is reinstalled on the drive.

The repair form has blanks for the computer users Name, Telephone Number, Email Address, and Service Tag.

The repair form requests the approval or rejection of a Windows Reinstall if the depot determines that reinstalling Windows can resolve the issue.

Additional information should be included about the operating system. If the computer is password protected, provide the username and password for a local account with administrative privileges. The repair depot cannot log in to domain accounts. See an example of the information sheet on the Dell Support site. The example that is provided may be slightly different in appearance than what you receive with your return box but contains the same fields to complete. Follow the specific instructions included with your repair form.

Note: This information sheet is your direct communication tool. Fill it out completely and give a detailed explanation of why the computer is being sent for repair. The more information that you provide, the more likely the Dell repair center can help resolve your issue.
If the form or email to print the form is not received or misplaced, you can print the Pre-Repair letter. Failure to fill out the form in its entirety or provide sufficient information may result in delays in the repair process.

The back of the repair form shows you how to properly pack the unit. The last paragraph also has the contact information for Federal Express or UPS. The carrier is reflected on your return waybill.

Note: Carrier transit times may vary depending on the warranty service that is purchased with the computer. Turnaround times are communicated by Dell Technologies during the dispatching process.
