XPS 8940, motherboard replacement?

I have a Dell XPS MT 8940 desktop PC. I bought Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2 TB-M.2 NVMe storage as a "second drive" internal to my PC that could provide expansion via High Point Technologies 4zM.2 Port to PCIe 3.0 x16 NVMe Raid Controller. Trouble is my native Dell Motherboard would only support one 2 TB stick in Dec 2020 when I purchased. Now, on Feb 1, 2022, my Dell Motherboard is toast so a good time to replace with the right part to install additional NVMe storage. How do I find out what Motherboard to buy?

8940 case can only support oem 8940 board.  The dell psu can only work with Dell proprietary board.  for non-Dell board you can choose any standard intel 500 series mobo to work w Dell cpu ram and ssd.  you of course would need to buy a standard case and standard psu too.

Hi, @GadgetDiva ,

Hope I can clarify?

Virtually everything about the 8940 is Proprietary - in other words, it is unique to Dell & is, therefore, NOT interchangeable with other non-Dell (or even non-8940) components/parts!

The Case (or Box), that houses all the Components, will ONLY accommodate a 8940 Motherboard - a non-Dell Motherboard will NOT fit! Similarly, the Dell 8940 Motherboard will NOT fit into a non-Dell Case.

The Power Supply Unit (PSU) is also unique to Dell - hence it will NOT fit into another Case, nor will it work with any other non-Dell Motherboard.

Your prompt response is greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, I don't recognize your parlance. "dell psu?" Not familiar with the "8940 case" issue either. Wish I understood the advice you are giving me!

8940 Motherboard, power supply, case, etc is non standard.

So other than an 8940 motherboard there is no replacement.

2TB is not the max ssd it can support. 2 TB is the Dell validated top ssd. You can certainly install >2TB ssd in this mobs. But if mobo is bricked now, it would be expensive to replace w the oem board.  If you choose to replace w oem board, better get good warranty.

you are only able to use a dell proprietary motherboard. you need to buy a 8940 motherboard from some place like ebay. the dell power supply (psu) is also a proprietary shape and uses proprietary connections.
