took 24 hours to install win 7 and boot 45mins very slow

Their computer is a Dell Dimension 1100 that was running Windows XP. I formatted and booted from win7 install dvd disk to install. The system was running ok on win7 but was donated to me and wiped. Both drives set as master: hd primary master, dvd secondary master. 2gb ram.

ere's the problem. On the Dell Dimension 1100 it took 24 hours to install win 7 after format. To boot all the way up takes 1 hour. Typing each character takes 5-10 mins. etcetera

How do i fix this?  Only a driver disk came with used pc given to me from my church as they were trashing it.

Thank you,

john

Its very weak hardware from 2005! In my opinion its not worth running Windows 7 on; you'd be better getting a secondhand OptiPlex 760/780/790... Have you made a F12 bootable diagnostics CD and run it on the system with a Windows 7 OEM License.
