Ctrl-z: undo doesnt work

Hotkey for undo doesn't work. Tried in notepad. Tried laptop keyboard and external keyboard. Tried changing system locale and keyboard in Regional control panel. Tried left and right control keys. In a software i use often (Eclipse the java IDE), i went into the menu where you assign hotkeys. I tried ctrl+z and it doesnt recognize that I'm pressing Z if i hold control. Of course the Z key is recognized, and the control key is recognized. Just not ctrl+z. Running windows vista on a dell latitude d830, brand new laptop.

I have always understood that if the program does not have the Undo command ( CTRL-Z ), then pressing ctrl-z would never work.  Having said that, notepad does have the undo command and ctrl-z does work on my system.

I am wondering if any of the other basic keyboard commands work.  Just thinking that maybe something is wrong with the clipboard.

Right, every other hotkey works and I use a lot of them. Undo hotkey doesnt work in any application, I have to use Edit > Undo.

Assuming that your language is US English, is this the setting for your keyboard layout ?

Control Panel / Regional and Language  Options / Keyboards and Languages TAB

Press the Change keyboards button

Default input language:

English (United States) - US

Installed Services:

 EN English (United States)

      Keyboard

           US
