VxRail 3.0 to 3.5 Upgrade Procedure

Hi All,

VxRail 3.5 has been released last week.

But we could not find the upgrade procedure and binarys download link.

Do you know the upgrade procedure VxRail 3.0 to VxRail 3.5 ?

Hi giadarola, could you please let me confirm one more thing on updating the software.

I believe that software update, which includes vCenter, vShpere and vSAN on VxRAIL, is provided by EMC in CS(customer support). So the customer don’t need to pay for any extra fee on upgrading the software. Is my understanding in correct? For example, does the customer need to buy PS(Professional Service) for it?

Thanks.

I have the same question here! Would like to make use of the external vCenter feature.

Upgrade from VxRail 3.0 to VxRail 3.5 are available by support call.

Call into EMC VxRail Remote Support and ask to schedule an upgrade.

External vCenter is only available to set up at initial configuration of the appliance. Once the appliance has been configured, you cannot switch.

If you have a VxRail appliance that is set up and running at v3.0 and you want to upgrade to 3.5 to use external VC, then the appliance will need to be re-imaged or factory reset on v3.5. After that happens, then you will need to re-configure the appliance and during the configuration, you can choose external VC.

Note that reset and/or re-imaging is a destructive process. You will not be able to maintain any data on the system unless is it first migrated off or otherwise backed up.

Ok.

Do you know if there is a recommendation or limitation about the maximum round-trip tim between VxRail appliance and the external vCenter server (as there is one for the vSan witness appliance in a stretched cluster configuration)?

Hi giadarola,

Thank you for your information.

I understand. But i think that "Upgrading only by the EMC Support" is not good...

If you had the information of upgrade requirement and limitation, could you share ?

For example, upgrade time requirement, network requirement(ESRS or WebEx?), etc.

from what I've read vsan has no reliance on vcenter, but I'm also curious for a recommendation from VMware or VCE here.

If the brand new box came with 3.0 and the customer want to upgrade to 3.5, where can find a procedure upgrade in the field or only can by support call?

The upgrade service to 3.5 is provided at no charge

@ringo_ng Has the Appliance been installed yet? As part of the installation it is upgraded to 3.5.  If not and it is running, it requires a EMC support to upgrade.

It is not installed.  It shipped out on Jun 15 and we going to install on coming Friday, so we doubt it shipped a 3.0 version.

I got the upgrade procedure on SolveDesktop PS/CS procedure.

Also, I understand the upgrading by only EMC CS service.

Thanks.
