VMware Tools update to fix VMSA-2021-0012 / VMSA-2021-0013
Hello,
We need to update the VMware Tools on all of our Windows virtual machines to fix this (~1000 vm).
I have looked inside the slim package for VxRail 7.0.202 and the tools are still too old: VMware_locker_tools-light_11.2.5.17337674-17867351.vib. We need at least 11.2.6 to fix the security issue (https://www.vmware.com/security/advisories/VMSA-2021-0013.html).
Can I manually install VMware-Tools-11.3.0-core-offline-depot-ESXi-all-18090558.zip on my VxRail nodes running 7.0.132, or is this going to break the next VxRail upgrade ?
Thank you.

Hello Beta1,
You don’t want to manually install the update, if you use VMware update manager you will break the VxRail environment. You will need to use what we provide in the VxRail bundle.

You can download the latest VMware tools from the link below and then directly install it onto your guest Operating Systems without impacting the VxRail environment. I just downloaded the appropriated .exe installer and patched the guests using our windows server patching processes.

The VMTools have this open vulnerability is a "Cyber Essentials Plus" fail - when can we expect a VxRail update which includes the patched VMTools?

Hi,
We do not have any information on a release date yet.

The solution I used for us is to set up a shared centralized repository for the VMware Tools (one per cluster)
This allows the management of the VMware Tools packages/versions without touching the ESXi hosts.
