yikes!
accessing this forum via a blackberry is a nightmare! but i have no internet access yet. still caught between ISPs, one cancelled, the other not yet activated! And no email either.

Good grief man, you brought the Army, Air Force, National Guard, Reserves and (I think) the Boy Scouts in to prevent your system(s) from getting anything... Ah, what sort of websites do you visit???

No not really, more like common sense. You would have to agree it is better to be safe than sorry.
Stick around awhile and you will learn what all these programs do, and why it is important to have a layered approach to security.

The overkill referred to was for my desktop systems, not my smartphone.
As far as I know, the only protection my blackberry has is what came with it.
And the only websites I visit are related to security, as far as my desktop goes. At the moment, I am limited to smart phone internet access to the Internet.
