Camera shows black screen instead of image

Hi All,

I just bought the new Dell XPS 10, however when I use the camera app, there is a black screen shown instead of the preview.

If I press the screen it will take a picture and it will show the image.

So basically I can't preview what I take.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards

Myuran

Hey, everybody, on some laptops (I found this on another page, and it was the exact solution I needed) there's a little slider button that actually physically covers the camera. Just move it to the right (on my machine anyhow) and it will uncover the camera!

Hi Myuran,

Thank you for reply.

After some research I found that  permission needs to be given to any App that access the camera on your tablet, including the Camera App.

To check the permissions on the Camera App:

>Launch Camera App.
>From the Settings Charm, select Permissions.
>Under the Privacy option, move the slider to turn on the access.

Hope it helps.

Thanks & Regards

Are you still having this issue?   Is this the front camera, rear camera, or both?   What application are you in when this occurs?   Can you try video mode to see if the same thing happens?

if it is the rear facing camera, I had the same experience and had to send tablet in for service. The root cause is a quality defect issue with camera shutter causing it to "stick" in closed position until it was jarred by a shutter pulse by taking a photo. It seemed to get better over time after repeated use to the point that it would just "delay" for a few second before opening. Rather than taking a chance I decided to have Tablet serviced while it was under warranty and now my tablet camera works as it should! hope this information helps you! :-)

Hi...I have had my XPS 10 for about 2 months and the camera does the same as yours...also most of the time has no "icon" for changing from front to rear facing camera.  I have read a lot of reviews and find this is a common problem.  I've been told I have to send mine in for "analysis"....even though it came out of the BOX defective on Christmas.  Not a happy customer at ALL.

Make sure that you've downloaded all of the available software updates.    That might solve the problem.   If not, I'd suggest you call support and have them either exchange or service the device for you.   Sorry for the trouble....

Dell support, @Anonymous @DELL-Brian B , please bring back the document mentioned above. The most annoying camera issue I had with a laptop.. it randomly works or not even after ran all the tests from the dell support software and driver updates.  It's Latitude 5490.

You. Are. Brilliant.

After an hour of searching for a solution, it turns out that it was just a little lens cap!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
