PowerEdge R630 idrac up date via racadm failing from local machine to remote idrac ip
racadm version: 9.4
local machine os: rhel8
Updating from iDRAC 2.85.85.85 -> 2.86.86.86 is failing using racadm from local machine to the remote idrac ip.
using the following racadm command from a RHEL 8 terminal:
racadm -r <idrac ip> -u <idrac-root> -p <idrac-root-password> update -f /path/to/idrac/file/iDRAC-with Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_VWF72_WIN64_2.86.86.86_A00.EXE --reboot
the output is:
The Copying Operation has begun,
This might take several minutes to complete, depending on the network.
Do not interrupt the operation.
This eventually times out after what seems about 10 minutes or so with:
Error: Session is not valid
If I go to the iDRAC GUI and upload this file it uploads very slowly and will update via the GUI but the racadm command.
In Lifecycle logs I do see:
RED002: Package successfully downloaded.
Detailed subscription:
Package has been successfully downloaded. The job Scheduler will schedule it at the time specified.
Recommended Action:
Schedule the job if it is not already scheduled.
Not sure why this command should require a Job Scheduler and doesn't update immediately.
Any possible solutions for this issue or a heads up to what me be happening here.
But this also fails with ERROR: Session is not valid and registers absolutely nothing in the Lifecycle log.

Hello,
This file iDRAC_2.86.86.86_A00.exe has to be executed to extract the file.
The firmimg.d7 is the native file for the iDRAC.
You can typically use iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_VWF72_WN64_2.86.86.86_A00.EXE and the DRAC will extract the .d7 file but if that does not happen then we should use the application file, extract the .d7 and supply that to the DRAC.

Hello,
Could you try using the firmimg.d7 file

@DELL-Charles R Why would I have to do this if the file is a self extracting executable? Shouldn't these steps you mentioned be done during the execution of the file?
