Command Update only presenting up to 4.5 on new laptops

We use Dell laptops at our business and have close to 500 in circulation.

After every build we run Command Update to update the laptops to the latest drivers etc. Usually when we run this recently we are presented with the latest Command Update V5.3. However just the last month or so we have only been getting V4.5 which seems to also be the version that is pre installed on the laptop.

It seems to run some updates as before but not as many, maybe 5 compared to 10 as previously given for a new laptop.

Does anyone know what has happened to Command Update that is stopping us being offered 5.3 anymore?

Thank you

Hi ServiceDeskWeeny:

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your particular problem since you work in a business environment, but see my 09-May-2024 topic Support for Dell Update / Alienware Update Ending December 2024.

The Dell support article Dell Update and Alienware Update has further details about the end of support for Dell Update, but that official announcement only mentions Dell Update for consumer and client computers on Inspiron, Vostro, XPS, and Alienware models.

I don't know if the end of support will also apply to Latitude models or client computers in a business environment that have Dell Command | Update installed, but Netweezurd's 14-Jun-2024 Wait... WHAT? Command Update stops? suggests that is the case.  However, there is nothing on the Dell Command | Update download page at https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000177325/dell-command-update to indicate that Dell Command | Update is being discontinued for commercial clients.

NOTE: If I search the Dell support site at https://www.dell.com/support/search/en-us for "Dell Update discontinued" the AI-generated answer says "Dell Command | Update and Alienware Update will end support on December 31, 2024".  In an odd twist, if I search for "Dell Command | Update discontinued" the AI answers "Dell Command | Update is not discontinued". Go figure.
