WD800 0F00:0240, 0F00:1A40 on 54752, 54753

On a 14 year old Dell Dimension 2400 that I am fixing, I couldn't get the OS to boot (XP). I ran the "Cannot Boot the OS" test on it, and it failed on the IDE tests.

Test Results: Fail

Error Code 0F00:0240

Msg: Block 54752: Address mark not found or media error.

Test Results: Fail

Error Code 0F00:0240

Msg: Block 54753: Address mark not found or media error.

(both errors repeat)

The errors were thrown on the IDE Disk - Read Test and the IDE Disk - Verify Disk. Also, the Confidence test seemed to not run.

Do I need a new HDD, or is there a BIOS fix?

System specs:

Intel Celeron SL6VT

256 MB SDRAM

WD Caviar WD800 80GB HDD

Removed network card

ToastCat213,

You would need a new hard drive. Motherboard may also need replaced.

You're going to need a replacement (used or old stock, since the type of drives - EIDE - these systems use haven't been made in about six years) drive.  This one is toast.

Thanks, at this point the drive won't even read and i can hear the head clicking rapidly. Looking into a higher capacity capacity of hard disk.
