Laptop battery drains to zero while gaming

I've had my Dell G5 15 for a long while (going on 6 years) and in the past year the battery has been draining to zero followed but the computer powering off when running intensive games. I'm aware of hybrid power mode drawing from the battery during moments of high intensity, but this obviously isn't working as intended. The problem started around the time that I replaced a broken GPU fan with an OEM one. The computer's battery is also reaching end of life (wear level is 67.8% according to HWiNFO).

Is it likely that replacing my 130w AC adapter with a 180W one would solve this or am better off sending it in? Is there a deeper problem that I could be overlooking? I'm between jobs so a cheaper stop-gap solution is preferable.

Dell out of warranty repair may not do any better job than you could have done it yourself.

Besides replacing the AC adapter with a 180w, consider to replace a new battery.  The combination should resolve your issue as hybrid power should be disabled when battery level reaches below 10% and battery charging resumed.

Refer to service manual for instructions and taking precaution while working on system board components.

It's the battery that needs to be replaced, not the AC adapter.  A higher capacity AC adapter won't do anything -- the system needs a working battery for the hybrid power setup to function correctly.

Thanks for the advice. And yeah, had I realised years ago that I could be giving this thing more juice... oh boy I feel like I've been wasting it lol

If the system shipped with the 130W adapter and it's been working properly since new until now, the issue is still the battery -- a higher power adapter will not solve the problem.

No disagreement on that.  A high power adapter alone would not solve the problem, a combination does.  Hence the instruction for battery replacement was offered.
