PLDS DVD R/W DU-8A4S

New laptop Dell Latitude running Windows 7 64-bit.

DVD drive is not recognized by Device Manager. Error code is: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

I have uninstalled, removed the physical unit, inserted again, selected to download new drivers, etc. All done multiple times. No positive results.

Dell website doesn't show drivers or firmware update for this particular DVD player. I can only find drivers and troubleshooting procedures for DS-8A3S or 8A2S.

Can you help providing the update firmware/driver for this unit?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. No, I had already tried that Microsoft FixIt, but as it couldn't identify the DVD R/W driver, it gets interrupted.

In the meantime, I googled for Code 19 DVD Windows and found a very helpful Youtube video on How To Fix Code 19. The link is . You need to delete certain keys from the Registry, if they are found.

It worked immediately. I didn't even have to restart the laptop. The DVD R/W is working well now.

The caveat I also found out is that this problem might be introduced by upgrades to iTunes which an article says it supposedly adds these keys to the Registry. I'll keep an eye next time my iTunes calls for an upgrade, and if the DVD driver stops working, I'll know where to go.

Cheers.

Try this Microsoft Article ........

If the "FixIt" does not work, scroll down the page and follow the manual instructions for your operating system.

Yes, iTunes can often cause this error.  Keep the fix available for the future.  Best regards.
