Dell v305 inkjet printer on Windows 10

I recently installed Windows 10 and when I attempt to print on my Dell v305 inkjet printer I receive the error message "Communications Not Available" my printer is attached via USB. I can use the scan feature of the printer and it scans fine, just when I try printing I receive the error. The print job appears in the print queue, just wont print. I tried reinstalling with no luck also saw there was no Windows 10 driver. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

MattKilgore26,

Reinstall the printer using the instructions below.

From the Announcement at the top of the page, Windows 10 Compatibility with Dell Printers

Dell suggests...

Installing Older Windows Printer Drivers in Windows 10

Try this procedure and see if the printer installs.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode you’ll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on).

Links to the drivers can be found at…

Dell V305 & V305w All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

JT_BBXB,

I don't understand why there would be an update for the printer. Reinstall the printer using the instructions in THE PREVIOUS POST.

stripes52331163,

At the bottom in search the web and windows, type

Internet

You'll see a desktop app for Internet Explorer 11.

This is related to the IE11 and balloon tips issue.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.

Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.

I used the second option below, that worked:

Turn off the balloon tips for the printer

I am having the same problem. Uninstalling IE did not work for me, and when I get to "Advanced" under Printer Preferences, the "More Options" button is greyed out. Any suggestions?

MattKilgore26,

Restart the computer and try it. If the printer is wireless, you may have to unplug the printer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. It may take about 2 minutes for the printer to connect and communicate with the computer.

I originally used XP SP3 compatibility but that brought up the .Net Framework 2 error message for Dell Imaging Toolbox.  After following these (Vista SP2 compatibility) instruction, all is fine.  Thank you Rick :)

Hello, I attempted the above with Windows 8. Initially it printed to test page and then back to the communication error. I unplugged the printer from the Power outlet for 2 or more minutes, then it started to work again. Thanks for the info.
