Best Practice to install powerpath on solaris cluster servers

Hi,

We have a solaris cluster server with four servers. We already Veritas DMP installed on it and we want to install Powerpath on these server with one node at a time basis. These server are in  Production. Is there a Best Practise that we can follow of r the installation.

Following is the plan that we have.

We are planning to use Powerpath  for multipathing on all the unix servers , instead of DMP, our customer wants us to implement the Powerpath one node at a time in cluster , which means , suppose if we have 4 node cluster , we will be installing and using the Powerpath one node , which means , three nodes will be running DMP and one node will be running Powerpath , once it is success , they are ready to give us next server in the cluster for installing the powerpath.

The question is , we are interested (also best practice ) , installing the powerpath on all the nodes at a time instead of one by one.

are there any problem if we run some nodes in the cluster with  DMP and some with Powerpath.

Rutuparna,

Hi!  It is not recommended to install PowerPath on multiple nodes at the same time. It requires downtime to install or upgrade PP.  One node at a time is the best way to go as outlined in the user guide.  In addition, you can find information about PP with other MPIO products in the Install/Admin guide on PowerLink.  In the guide look for the chapter titled:

Coexistence with third-party multipathing software

Yes, they are available on Powerlink.  You must be an EMC customer, partner, or employee to access Powerlink.

They can be found here:   http://powerlink.emc.com/km/appmanager/km/secureDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=servicesDocLibPg&internalId=0b0140668035438e&_irrt=true

If the link doesn't work, here is the path:

Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ P-R ~ Documentation > PowerPath Family > PowerPath > Installation/Configuration

When you get to that screen, scroll down to the Solaris manuals.
