Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop CPU Upgrade
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and would like to upgrade the CPU will a T9400 SLB46 work with that laptop? as it has a 2.00GHz now

It should, yes -- as long as you have DDR2-1066 RAM.
If your current CPU uses an 800 MHz bus and has DDR2-800 you'll need replacement RAM.

I forgot to ask what kind of memory do I put in as just got the CPU in (I had one laying around)
It had pc2 5300

That's more than fast enough -- the CPU only uses 1066.
