Service tag change?

Hi all I’ve recently changed my servers motherboard however the board is in a different chassis to the original is there any way to transfer the physical service tag on the chassis (one on the little sliding out bit of plastic) to the new chassis so it matches the motherboard

Hello,

You can use our Support Live tool to change service tag.

Dell Support Live Image v. 2.2

https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02725499M/1/SLI22_UserGuide.pdf

Page 14:

Setting the Asset and Service Tag

To set the asset and service tag:

  1. Boot the system using the DOS-Based Diagnostic Tools (Dell 11G servers)

The Customer Diagnostic Menu Ver 1.6 is displayed.

  1. At the Enter option or letter prompt, press <4>.

The MS-DOS prompt is displayed.

  1. Type c:, and press <Enter>.

The working drive changes to c:\.

  1. Type CD Util, and press <Enter>.

The working directory changes to c:\Util.

  1. Type asset new_asset_tag   #######       or service new_service_tag ####### , where new_asset_tag or new_service_tag is the tag you want to assign to the system. Set both asset and service tag the same (Your service tag).

Example: asset #######

and service #######

  1. At the confirmation prompt, press <y>.

A replacement board comes without a STAG and it the old STAG will be set after finishing the work. Thats how its done.

Hi,

It depends on what server you are having, I may need to try look for the component the pull-out tag is attached to. Say example, PowerEdge R740, the pull out tag is attached to the left control panel ear, hence you will need to remove the entire left ear, user guide for reference: https://dell.to/462FVQs

@Callum Simpson Manually changing the Serial Number after a sys board replacement is easily done.

Please provide the model of PowerEdge you are working on as the procedure differs between generations.

Thank you

Hello,

If it doesn't proceed then reboot and try again.

You may try redownload the iso make sure you got a good download.

I also recommend burn it as an image to DVD.

@Callum Simpson Setting the Asset Tag and Service Tag to the same thing is all that is required.
