R640, what is slot 40?

We have a R640 that started rebooting on its own and at the same time got significantly lower NVME drive speeds compared to a similar box. There are 2 drives, so we cloned the OS drive and moved to the other, but the reboots are still happening and drive speeds are slow on that as well.

There are 2 errors in iDRAC

A bus fatal error was detected on a component at slot 40.
A fatal error was detected on a component at bus 136 device 0 function 0.

According to inventory, bus 136 is the original NVME drive. But what is 'slot 40'? I assume that is where the real problem is.

There was also an error after the reboots where between POST/UEFI and boot there was a 'non maskable interrupt (02) Source: Hardware on BSP' on metronome.efi+001BD7

We do not have physical access to the box and would need to go to the location to troubleshoot.

Thanks

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community:

"A bus fatal error was detected on a component at slot 40.
A fatal error was detected on a component at bus 136 device 0 function 0."

I say we need to look into these error messages further with the TSR logs.
Please get in touch with your local support through https://dell.to/3zt9L4a

It's possible that the controller might be at fault, but yes best if we can have the logs analized.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately the TSR logs do not look like they have any more information than the iDRAC or inventory report. Nothing besides the errors mentions a 'slot 40'.

What does your local support say after they check the Log as Young E advised you?

I called, they said they can't even tell me what that is without a 2hr diag fee.

I have not found any documents or another post online saying what 'slot 40' could be.

Hi,

without TSR it isn't easy to get this information, you could try to remove single components to test it.

I believe that its the same message related to the same drive. If you click the 1st option, it shows you the bus number, but if you click the 2nd option, it will show you the slot number. Your system's drive locations may be different.
