Dell T630 - No Power

Hi,

I have a Dell T630 that will no longer boot.

It has two PSU's that each show solid green lights (manual says this is good).

When I turn the power on at the wall the diagnostic lights on the motherboard get stuck at:

  • DS1 - blinking
  • DS4 - solid
  • DS7 - blinking

It's a pain in the bum trying to diagnose problems when Dell don't provide a reference for what these lights mean and the screen on the front of the machine shows no signs of life.

I've replaced the CMOS battery, cleared the NVRAM using the jumper pins, removed the GPU and additional networking cards. All that remains is the two CPUs, RAM and backplane that haven't changed.

Can you please provide some information regarding the diagnostic lights on the motherboard?

Please and thank you.

As an update I have also followed all the steps in the troubleshooting guide.

I have also attempted the minimal boot test (1 CPU and 1 RAM stick in A1).

The same lights are blinking - no change in outcome.

Hello,

the only way to diagnose is to remove all peripheral and try one dimm bank one by one.

If the problem still the same then you have to replace motherboard and CPU. Usually we replace both together.

Thanks

Hi Marco, thanks for getting back to me.

All the peripherals are removed, and I've gone through all the RAM, I highly doubt 16 sticks of memory stopped working at once.

I have also tried both CPU's.

I managed to get into iDrac for about 30 minutes, there was nothing useful in the logs.

I updated iDrac, then once the update was confirmed I popped the CPU cooler back on and the shroud and then it stopped working again and I've not been able to get it back to loading iDrac again.

I'm back to top and bottom flashing lights with one solid light in the middle (1001001).

Can you please be specific about what the diagnostic lights mean?

Any more ideas?
