Excessive Update Scans After Dell OpenManage Inventory Agent Installed

I have implemented the SCCM 3rd Party Updates feature in our lab for Dell Business Client Systems.  The SCCM version is 2103 and I'm working with OpenManage Inventory Tool 2.9.0.0.  In the test lab I see a slight increase in the time it takes to complete an SCCM Software Update scan from 1 minute or so to 5 - 10 minutes.  No big deal and I think this is explained because I'm scanning against a larger catalog but our production environment is a different matter.

In production the SW update scan times have gone from 1-2 minutes to 20-60 minutes and that's impacting the deployment times of our other updates.  I've been able to rule out antivirus interference as the cause.  I've tried removing/installing the SCCM client.  As soon as I remove the OpenManage Inventory Tool, scan times go back to "normal".

Is there a history of the Dell Inventory Tool causing excessive scan times?  Are there recommendations for other areas I can check?
