S2722QC, flickering, MacBook Air M1

I have recently purchased the Dell S2722QC and within around 1 minute of turning it on, the screen becomes flickering. This has nothing at all to do with the cables or laptop I am using (MacBook Pro) as it flickers even when nothing is connected to the monitor. A large portion of the pixels just blink. This is super annoying and most irritating. I purchased around 25 days ago and opened 4 days ago. Not impressed with the display at all. Does anyone know what I can do about this? Is there anyway I can send it back for a replacement?

* Turn the S2722QC off
* Disconnect every cable from the S2722QC
* For testing, the S2722QC power cable should be plugged directly into the wall power socket
* Plug only the power cable into the S2722QC
* Run the stand alone S2722QC Built-in diagnostics, page 67 in the online S2722QC User's Guide
* Create a video showing the flicker while running the Built-in diagnostics

Yes, I have. I seems to be the Refresh Rate Setting on MAC OS causing the flickering. Change your Display Refresh Rate from "Variable 40-60Hz" -> "60Hz" and the problem will not start.
Only Issue with this is that the setting does not save for some reason so you have to do it every time you reconnect the monitor.

Feel free to report to Apple Feedback /Bugs page to increase awareness so they fix this mess.

Hope this helps

Is there anyway to send this back for a replacement? I am super annoyed and ready to give a 0 star review for customer support and product quality. The customer support is just poor, the website you contact on is just terrible compared to other brands. The product quality is also poor and terrible. I just want someone to tell me what to do with the monitor, I just want it replaced or something.

I followed all steps and in the diagnostics it was still flickering. I have no idea how to explain the issue with the display. Flickering can be referenced to going off and on but it isn't going on or off. It is a large portion of the pixels on the display that go dull and become brighter every few milliseconds creating this flashing flickering issue. None of the cameras I have (phone cameras) are capable of picking up the issue as they have auto focus.

I am experiencing the same exact issue as TheLostProgrammer and can confirm how frustrating this issue is. As a matter of fact, the screen is flickering right now and it is straining my eye and making it difficult for me to do my work. I am pretty close to returning this thing and buying a different brand if Dell doesn't come up with a solution

Hi, are you using a mac running macOS Monterey 12?

I'm also experiencing this issue in a similar situation. Bought this monitor just about 30 days ago and its begun to randomly flicker. Not the entirety of the screen, but a large portion of pixels in the center.

I use a Macbook Air M1 via USB-C, where I see the issue most common. I have only noticed it one of my PS5 (HDMI) after switching from the Macbook when the issue had already started on that particular day.

Turning off the monitor completely for a few minutes most times stops the issue.

This definitely needs to be fixed. For a new monitor, this is not a good start.

The MacBook Air M1 would be the issue. The monitor itself is fine and from what I have tested, the monitor works fine with every other device I have other than my MacBook Pro M1. I have also noticed that the flickering will occur even after the M1 device has been disconnected. Even when turning the display off and on it will still be there until you use the display. This is what makes it look like the flickering is occurring on other devices like your PS5.

Are you using macOS Beta by any chance?

What Color Profile have you set your display to?

I'm on the stable version of Mac OS, not the beta. I also have my Color profile set to "Dell S2722QC". The issue is actually the Variable Refresh rate setting in MacOS. Change it to 60Hz and the problem never starts. Only other problem is the setting does not save so you have to do it every time you connect the monitor.

That does indeed seem to fix it. I will keep an eye on it just to make sure it is fixed. I will also be sending a feedback request to Apple since I am using the Beta version.

I am also having this problem with a U2720QM on a Macbook Air M1.  Already using 60hz refresh rate.  Identical symptoms.

Although the Mac seems to be the catalyst, it is not a problem with the Mac itself.  How can I tell?   I can unplug the Mac from the monitor entirely, switch inputs to my Dell XPS laptop, and there will be faint ghosting of the image that was on the Mac screen when the flickering started.  If I wait it out, it eventually stops and the ghosting on the other input also goes away.

I have this issue both on USB-C and HDMI.  It comes on gradually and eventually fades away and the monitor resumes normal operations.  I have done factory reset, etc.  Sometimes it seems like it's fixed and then a week or so later it starts again.

Also, when it is misbehaving, the flickering will also be evident in the light gray fullscreen test of the Built In Self Test (BIST) with NOTHING connected to the inputs.  The other colors look fine.

There is something wrong with these Dell monitors.

I just checked to see if the flickering was still occurring. Appears the flickering of my display is still occurring too. I turned off True Tone and the issue seems to be gone. I can only suggest that you turn off True Tone, set refresh rate to 60 Hertz, and make sure the display colour is the Dell default.
