S2340M monitor settings issue

When gaming I want it on the gaming preset with image enhance. But the images are real "grainy" any other preset the images look washed out. I want to adjust options in the "Display Settings" but options like, Sharpnedd , Pixel Clock, Phase, and Horizontal and Vertical position are greyed out and can not be changed.... how do i fix this so that they are not greyed out and I can make those adjustments

Hi Jrizzolo78,

You can turn off the monitor, unplug the power cord, plug it back, and then turn on the monitor. DDC/CI (Display Data Channel/Command Interface) allows your monitor parameters (brightness, color balance, and etc.) to be adjustable via the video drivers on your computer. I would suggest you to enable DDC/CI and LCD conditioning feature for best user experience and optimum performance of your monitor. Also, you can perform a factory reset of your monitor and see if it works:

1. Use the control buttons on the front of the monitor to adjust the characteristics of the image being displayed. As you use these buttons to adjust the controls, an OSD shows the numeric values of the characteristics as they change.

2. Touch the 'Menu' button to launch the OSD menu and display the main menu
3. Touch the   or   button to move between the setting options. As you move from one icon to another, the option name is highlighted.
4. Touch the    button once to activate the highlighted option.
5. Touch the   or   button to select the desired parameter.
6. Touch the    button to enter the slide bar and then use the   &   buttons, according to the indicators on the menu, to make your changes.
7. Touch the    button to return to the main menu or    to exit the OSD menu

Please find the OSD menu options to navigate to Factory Reset feature in the image below:

After the ''factory reset' check the performance of the monitor again. If the issue persists, try adjusting the monitor screen vertically to see if that works.

Another step can be to try connecting it with another port (in case you have connected to VGA, try connecting monitor with another port and vice versa) and see if it works. You can also upgrade the monitor driver from the link: http://dell.to/SQnvaP

Steps to download driver:-

  • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
  • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
  • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
  • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
  • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
  • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
  • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
  • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
  • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
  • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.
  • Restart your computer.

Please reply with findings.

When the setting got "Image Enhance" is enabled everything turns "grainy" or almost "pixelated".

If "Image Enhance" is disabled or on any other preset then the image seems "washed out"

so i want to fiddle with these settings to see if it helps or enable them to see if thats the problem.

Called Dell support 3 times, got India all 3 times, they did zero trouble shooting and want me to exchange it?

Telling me its a hardware malfunction, lol. Are you kidding? The issue I am having is with the "OSD" built in software not being accessible.

Dvi port and I took it back and exchanged it for another S2340M. And the same prob persists. Those options can be changed using a VGA cable but bit a DVI cable. Any clue?

Jrizzolo78,

What port on the video card to what port on the monitor are you using VGA or DVI? Try the other one on the monitor and see if those options appear in the monitor OSD.

This guide helped me with text distortion in my setup with a mac mini late 2009 and a dvi-d connection. Now it's working great again, thanks.

Hi Jrizollo78, Did you ever find a fix for this problem? I bought the monitor a while ago and unfortunately I just started using it and found the same problem. I have also tried all I could find on forums.

Some of the OSD options are not available when using DVI. That is by design. If you want to use all of the OSD options, you must be using:
Computer video card VGA out --> VGA to VGA cable --> S2340M VGA in

Those options are only available if you use the analog VGA input on the S2340M. They have no meaning when connected digitally, hence they are greyed out/disabled in the OSD menu.

As for the "graininess", make sure you - and the game - are using the display at its native resolution.
