Dell U3417W monitor suddenly can't be detected

I've been connecting my HP Chromebook 13 G1 (Energy Star) using a USB-C to HDMI DisplayPort Cable (6.0ft/ 1.8m), Boscheng Ultra HD to my Dell U3417W FR3PK flawlessly since August 24.

This morning I was working and let the Chromebook go to sleep as I stepped out for a run. When I returned, the monitor would no longer detect the device.

No one and nothing touched the set up while I was away. I am still able to use the connection to use the USB ports on the monitor as long as it powered on.

Here is what I have done so far.

Computer:

I tried unplugging all connections and powering down the monitor and Chromebook

I tried using the other USB-C port on the Chromebook

I tried the other HDMI port on the monitor

I tried a Reset, and

I tried a Powerwash of the Chromebook

Monitor:

I tested a different computer, a Macbook Air with Thunderbolt 2 port, connected to DisplayPort on the monitor

I ran the Self-Test Feature Check (SFTC)

I ran the Monitor Built-in Self Test (BIST) and it ran fine, all colors were visible and text was clear.

I'm frustrated because the setup was working so well, and I'm starting to think there is an issue with the ports on my monitor.

I want to do a factory reset on the monitor, but there is no way to access the on-screen display menu. I only see the Input Source menu.

Any help is appreciated.

It was the cable. I don't know why it decided to fail when the device went to sleep, but it did.

First, you state, "using a USB-C to HDMI DisplayPort Cable".

That doesn't make sense. Its either =
USB-C to HDMI
or
USB-C to DP

I have never seen one that had both on one end? Link to the cable?

* Turn the Chromebook and U3417W off
* Disconnect every cable from the U3417W (including power cable)
* Turn the Chomebook on, then off
* Connect only the power cable and a USB-C to HDMI cable to the turned off U3417W
* Connect the other end to the turned off Chromebook
* Turn the Chromebook on
* Turn the U3417W on
* Use the Chrome OS to engage/extend to the U3417W. What happens?

Sorry, Chris. That title was copied and pasted from the product listing, and you're right, it doesn't make sense. I should have checked and corrected the seller's mistake before posting.

The cable is simply USB-C to HDMI, and worked great until it didn't. Here is a link to the cable: http://a.co/2qXuExp

After following all your suggested steps in the exact order, I was unable to complete the last step because again the U3417W indicated there was no signal from the device.

I hadn't tried that exact process before, but we can add it to the list of things that didn't work.

The new cables I ordered were supposed to arrive today but were delayed until tomorrow. Those are another USB-C to HDMI: http://a.co/23QKkf3 and a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter so I can with one of my existing working HDMI cables: http://a.co/9G3jG06

If neither works I can rule out the cable being the issue. I'm hoping that is what it is, but not optimistic. I think there must be something wrong with the connections on the monitor.
