Dell OptiPlex 755 MT Floppy Drive Installation

Hello Dell Community,

I'm looking to buy a Floppy Drive for my Dell OptiPlex 755 MT Desktop and I've had trouble trying to find one that says it will fit an OptiPlex 755 MT. Anyway, I think I've finally found a Floppy Drive on eBay which is an OEM Dell Sony Floppy Drive. The seller says it was pulled out of an OptiPlex 755 but doesn't say what form factor, only that it will also fit 745 SFF Desktops.

Dell Sony MPF820 Optiplex 3.5" Floppy Drive with cable 745 SFF Working | eBay

Will the Floppy Drive fit my OptiPlex 755 MT Desktop with the IDE Cable that's in it?

Thank you.

Unfortunately that FDD uses a thin ribbon cable which is not the same as the standard IDE cable of most oem FDD.  It would not fit your 755 MT.  Find one that is more standard such as https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364884005582?

a better option may be an external USB floppy disk drive.

755 SFF mobo uses a mini FDD socket that is not seen in standard old motherboard.

@redxps630 Ok, thank you for letting me know and helping me avoid buying the wrong one. The Internal Floppy Drive you linked in your response is one that will fit my OptiPlex 755 MT, correct?

Won't @MasterTechnology507 still need the cable to plug it in?  I tried to source one, but didn't have much luck.

@bradthetechnut I have an IDE Cable waiting inside the PC. Once I get the Floppy Drive, I should be able to plug it in and it will work.

755mT stock psu has the mini 4 pin molex connector for FDD.

It is connector P7 in tech guide

FDD cable is available on eBay.

@redxps630

Thanks for the clarification   I thought it was a thinner cable the plugged into it since 755 is a SATA system.

Installing a floppy drive in a Dell OptiPlex 755 MT (Mini Tower) is possible, but there are a couple of things to consider:

  1. Floppy Drive Availability: Floppy drives are becoming increasingly rare as they are outdated technology. You might find them online marketplaces or computer parts stores that cater to older systems.

  2. Floppy Drive Type: The OptiPlex 755 MT uses a slimline floppy drive, which is smaller than standard floppy drives. Make sure to purchase a compatible slimline drive.

  3. Installation Guide: The Dell OptiPlex 755 User's Guide actually has instructions for installing a floppy drive [PDF].

@anyabaker

Doesn't look like previous posts were read and the knowledge they contain.  Correct part was already recommended by reddps630.  Is the above response AI?

@bradthetechnut I'm not sure. I already got the answer I needed from this forum but regardless of that I did find her reply useful.
