Expert advice please on display output

The screen resolution on my Latitude E7470 is 1920 x 1080. I may buy a
32" 2560 x 1440 QHD external monitor. But, will the laptop's 1920 x 1080, be able to display 2560 x 1440 on the external monitor, without causing damage to the laptop?

I'm not sure what specs to look for, but with aging eyes I need a clear & sharp screen, & decent sound. We use the laptop mainly for watching YouTube lectures & talks, but not much else.

Would QHD be OK or is FHD more suited for us oldies?

What kind of HDMI cable will be needed for the monitor's full resolution.
What are the Pros & Cons?

Your recommendations will be much appreciated.

Thanks for any advice,
Kind regards, Niloc1017

Hey Colin,

dont know your age, but E7470 is able to deliver 2560 x 1440 to an external display.
For Youtube FHD will be fine. Thats just your decision.
HDMI cable: every HDMI 2.0 cable will do the job.
Pro and cons: same boring discussion like motoroil and tires for motorcycles...
Just grab one 2.0 cable with the proper lenght. Thats it.

And I always wonder, why ppl here using "funny" screen names. Perpaps will should give funny answers...

@petermuss  Hi Peter, you've worked out my name !! But not my age, which is 85! Many thanks for your very helpful advice. I was concerned that pushing out a higher res to the external monitor might make demands on the laptop.

Yes, I've often been curious about the screen names folks use - some quite inventive. Kindest regards, Niloc/Colin
