Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable bad performance on battery after Bios update

Hello,

I have started to have performance problems with my Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable when updating my Bios from 1.27 to any newer version. The system works perfectly fine when plugged in to a power source or docking station. However for any new update, when run on battery without any other device attached, the CPU performance is limited to 0.5 GHz, which results in the system not being usable.

My current approach is to downgrade to 1.27 from any of the newer Bios updates. Does anyone has similar issue? I have seen on the forum similar symptom, but with a USB devices connected. This is not my case, the CPU is limited to 0.5 GHz once it is disconnected from the power source anytime.

I have tried clean OS installation, Dell has replaced the board, we have played with the Bios settings - but it feels it is more Bios issue rather than a HW issue. Is there anyone who has been facing the issue and has been able to resolve it with the latest Bios updates?

Thank you for any recommendation.

@Galilleo It seems to me that the issue you're having isn't hardware based but strictly software based as it doesn't happen until a BIOS update other than the version 1.27 is installed. In my opinion, I don't feel there is a need to install a new BIOS update unless it solves issues like when the fans turn on depending on temperature or wattage regulation for the CPU / GPU. So to solve this issue until Dell themselves actually release a BIOS update that'll address this battery issue you're having, keeping it at 1.27 is the best option.

Yes. I've been battling with Dell in this for years now. Dell has finally offered an explanation, which I can't quite recall - it's something to do with the USB implementation.

I've installed every updated bios with great enthusiasm only to find the problem happens every time, so I have to downgrade to 1.27 every time.

Then Microsoft started forcing bios updates, so I had to disable that in bios.

You're on the right bios - the only one that works is 1.27, though it's pretty naff for battery life. I always have to use USB hubs, so this issue cripples me.

So they say, there'll be a bios update this month (July 2024), but I'm not going to hold my breath. Indeed, it's 24th July now and nothing has been released.

It's such a shame, as it could have been a great little detachable. No idea why it's taking years to fix!

Just stick to 1.27, and if one comes out later in the year, maybe try that, but prep for downgrade!

@Rsalt my apologies for the late response, but thank you for looking out for @Galilleo and anyone else effected by this issue with the BIOS Updates!
