XPS 13 with 8gen Intel and 16 GB RAM

Hello Dell community,

Sorry if I am not posting my question on the right place. I live in the Netherlands, and I am eagerly waiting to buy a XPS 13. However, there is one thing stopping me - the 8th generation Intel edition of the XPS 13 is only offered with 8GB ram only in the Netherlands.

Now this is a problem since I'm a developer, and you I need more than 8 GB ram to do my work. On the other hand I travel a lot and my laptop needs to be lighter.

On the dell NL website the only edition of XPS 13 with 8th gen intel is with no more than 8 GB of ram. There is no clear way of contacting dell sales in the Netherlands, which makes the whole process difficult. Hence I decided to ask here.

Should I wait for an XPS 13 edition with 16 GB of ram and the latest Intel? I was also looking at the Inspiron's series, but I do not know much about it, is it as light as the XPS?

Thanks, and once again sorry if this is not the correct place to submit this question.

If you're looking at an XPS 13, I personally wouldn't recommend an Inspiron systems.  They typically are NOT as thin or light, are built with lower-grade materials (cheaper case materials, lower-quality keyboards and displays, etc), and often will not include features such as Thunderbolt and USB PowerShare.  There's a reason they're less expensive.

Unfortunately, since the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, you can't upgrade it yourself, but I would wait until the system you actually want is available if at all possible.

If you want an XPS, as noted you won't be happy with the sacrifices involved with downgrading to an Inspiron .  If you want the XPS 13, and the Kaby Lake (7th generation Intel CPU) is available with 16G, choose that in preference to the 8th generation model.  There just are not that many differences between the 7th and 8th generation Intel CPUs -- and just about everything else about the 8th generation system hasn't changed from the 7th.

^ Except that the 8th Gen CPU is the only way to get a quad-core XPS 13.

Thank you for your answers! I see that on the american dell website there is already a 16 G xps 13 with 8th gen intel. The question is: when is it going to show up in Europe? I guess I'd just have to wait.
