Missing Network adapter

I recently installed Vista Home Premium on to my Latitude E6400 XFR.  Since doing so I cannot get online either by LAN or by networking to my broadband connection.  I get an error message saying that the Network adapter is missing.  I do not have the original discs to hand

Go here:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_E6400_XFR&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Choose your version (32 or 64 bit).

System software is under System Utilities.

Chipset software is under Chipset.

Wireless drivers are under Network -- you will need to know which wireless card you have.  If you don't, open the bottom of the system and identify the card visually.

Thanks for advice but still a bit lost as to where to find the items you mention.  I have navigated to Dell downloads page but there is a myriad of info with which I am unfamiliar.

You must install a driver:

First, the Dell notebook system sofware

then the chipset driver

then the wireless driver.

support.dell.com has all of them.

Make sure you are:

NOT using Internet Explorer (use Firefox),

NOT using the Dell download manager (choose the "download using my browser" option).

The download option asks if I want to install.  As I am having to download to my desktop and then transfer to my laptop - will installing corrupt my desktop operating system.  It does not give me an option of where to dowmload to.
