Mouse works fine, programs open fine. But no response when typing on keyboard. My laptop is not connected to internet so can't use any online diagnostics. Suggestions? What'll ah do, Where'll ah go.

quiltmaster,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The Dell diagnostic test are also located on the Drivers & Utilities CD.  Reboot your  system with this disk in the drive.  Choose to boot from the CD drive by pressing [F12] when the Dell screen appears.  Another option would be to download the diagnostic program and save it to a CD or diskette using the Internet connection you are using to access the forum.

Drivers are located on the Downloads tab (above).

I downloaded and extracted to CD the diagnostic utilities from th web page. But since the keyboard isn't responding, pressing F12 during startup has no effect. Is there another way to boot from the CD?

I plugged in my USB keyboard from mjy desktop and the keys worked fine within aplications. However, pressing the USB's F12 during startup has no effect other than to give a loud beep sound. The computer still does not boot from CD. I tried running delldiag.exe from the command prompt, but that had no effect either. Any other suggestions?
