Issue updating Thunderbolt firmware
Anyone see this issue before?
When I start the update, Thunderbolt doesn't appear in the device list. When the update starts, I briefly see the device in device manager, but then the update fails with this error. Then, Thunderbolt disappears from Device Manager. It's almost like Thunderbolt isn't turned on. I've tried disabling and reenabling in the BIOS to no avail.

The only Thunderbolt reference I see in Device Manager is in the System section while my TB16 is plugged in.
You do know no Thunderbolt device should be connected when upgrading the firmware? So not sure what the references regarding TBT GPIO power mean.
Otherwise, I am not familiar with the entries in the listing.

The TB Controller disappears for the Device Manager. The TB UI is shown in the attachment and the Dock is unplugged. The Dock has to be unplugged when updating the firmware since the controller is on the computer.
There is a specific order to how you install drivers and firmware. When I first got the TB16 I was a little confused as to where devices actually were but I finally got it sorted and have had no further problems installing drivers or Firmware.
The ASMedia USB drivers are very important to this process.

Agreed on the don't have devices plugged in.
So, just to confirm, if you don't have a thunderbolt device plugged in, then in device manager thunderbolt doesn't appear as a device? And if you open the Thunderbolt software, it shows as of there are no chains present at all? That's the part that's confusing me. If that is the case, then maybe it's my device that isn't being recognized, and thunderbolt is behaving as intended.

When I have nothing plugged in, this is what my Thunderbolt software looks like. It acts like I don't have a thunderbolt port. I have followed Dell's recommended path of updating everything, but stuck at this point. I was able to get the firmware to update using a much older drive from the Dell site. The older drive allowed the firmware update to complete, but this is still the state of the controller. I'm beginning to suspect maybe a hardware issue?
