INSPIRON N5010 continuously beeping after pressing start button
Hi,
I was trying to upgrade my BIOS from Dell website, and within 10-15 sec of the installation my laptop was making loud sound and then stopped. Now when I am trying to start my laptop it will not start and just a continuous beep sound can be heard. Can it be recovered anyway? Does this sound like a motherboard crash?
Please help me with your input.
Thanks
Suraj

Continuous single beeps mean a mainboard failure -- if the pattern is different, it may have another cause (4 beeps, pause 4 is a memory failure, etc.).

So you are suggesting to change the motherboard?

That'll depend on your call -- this is a seven year old system, and any board you install will be a used, seven year old board. The cost of a board will be about $150 -- if you can do it yourself, that may make sense if you're otherwise happy with the system. If you have to pay a shop to do it, add another $100 for labor and the case for replacing the system becomes more compelling ($250 is half or more the cost of a new, budget-level system of the same market position this one was when it was new).
