Formatting laptop hard drive without bootable cd

Hi...I got my dell laptop some 4 yrs back and it was working fine. Since, few days back, I see the laptop is running slow.....I'd like to format it. I don't have a bootable CD ( I did not get any while purchasing)... Can any one tell me how to format without bootable CD.

Thank you

Hi,

You don't mention the model of your system or which Windows OS option you have on it, but most Dell systems come with an OS reinstall utility.   That utility allows you to reinstall Windows back to the factory image automatically without the need for the Windows media.

Here is a link to our article on Windows Reinstall and Repair.   There are links on it that will explain the process, as well as links to request copies of the Windows media if you prefer, or if the utility has become corrupted for some reason.

This should handle what you're looking to do.  I can't emphasis enough though that it will ERASE ALL DATA on the hard drive so make sure you back up your data before running the utility.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Todd

Hi,

Did you try the reinstall utility?  Is it still an option?
