Digital Camera USB Port not recognized

I have a new Olympus C-5000 Zoom Digital Camera. It is not being recognized by the USB port when plugged into my Inspiron 600 Laptop(XP HOME) AND it is also not recognized in my older Latitude CPi 266 laptop(XP PRO).  HOWEVER it is recognized in my older desktop Optiplex GX1(XP PRO) and also is recognized by a newer Optiplex GX270(XP HOME).  All the systems have Windows XP(either home or pro edition) with more that enough memory and disk space.(128MB of Ram+) .  The 2 laptops have the latest BIOS installed.  What is wrong?  It obviously is not the camera's software, because it works on 2 DELL desktops and not 2 DELL laptops. You cannot point the finger at Olympus.  Is there some software upgrade that must be done to the 2 laptops?  Do I need to install some USB software fix or upgrade?

Try downloading and installing the latest chipset drivers for your Inspiron.

First uninstall the camera software. Update the chipset drivers then reinstall camera software.

I upgraded the BIOS on the DIMENSION 600 from A08 to A12 and the USB port then recognized the camera.  Now all I need is some help on getting the LATITUDE CPi 266 to work. I am running with the latest BIOS with Windows XP PRO and I still haven't had any luck yet..
